The xD memory card format was developed with the photographer in mind. The xD cards are an ultra small and compact digital card used in most digital cameras and was developed by Olympus and Fujifilm. The xd picture card was designed to meet the demand of the modern digital camera and allow a fast and large storage system that keeps up with today's high mega pixel digital cameras.
About xD Picture Card:
The xD Card format was introduced by Olympus and Fujifilm in 2002. The main aim of the xD Picture Card was as a replacement for the older Smartmedia Card technology. xD Memory Card where designed to be mainly used in today high resolution Digital Cameras and is very common in Fujifilm and Olympus Digital Cameras. The xD Cards format does not incorporate a controller chip so allowing for the design to be much smaller in size than the older Smartmedia Cards.
xD Memory Cards where originally designed to meet the growing needs of professional photographers media types due to their small form factor, high speed and large capacity. xD Picture Cards can be used in many media devices that contain or accept one of the many xD Memory Card Readers.
Types of xD Picture Cards:
Xd Picture Card Type M :
This xD Card format was released in 2005 and has a higher maximum storage capacity than the original xD Picture Cards. The xD Memory Cards Type M comes in sizes up to 2gb but suffers from slower read-write speeds than previous formats. The xD Cards Type M is a very cheap and easy way to add storage capacity to your Digital Camera.
Xd Picture Card Type H:
This xD Card was introduced in late 2005 and has higher data transfer rates than the xD Card Type M format. The xD Memory Cards Type H format can transfer data at around 3 times faster than the xD Memory Card Type M format. The xD Cards Type H format also comes in storage capacities of over 2gb and have fallen in price over the last few months to make them a very cheap way of adding storage to your device.
